So now to the long winded reason why I’m sharing this…. you don’t have to be a parent or member of their school to take a test drive.  It would be greatly appreciated, if anyone that is able to, takes a test drive at their school.  I know that our school really benefited from raising funds last fall.  It was quick, easy, no kids had to sell things, and you don’t get any follow up from the event unless you choose to.  I want to say we raised over $2500, those funds went to purchasing iPods for classrooms, a purchase we couldn’t have otherwise afforded.

So, if you can or can share this with others, please consider dropping by Murphy School at this time on this date (5/30/12 11-2pm).  10 minutes of your time equals $10 for their children.

Mrs. Schlader is teaming with another ISD 318 teacher, Lori Carlson (Kindergarten teacher at Murphy). The two are walking to support others with kidney diseases who need our help.

This Friday, May 18th is a hat day for students that choose to participate.  The students’ $1 (or more) donation will allow them to wear their hat during portions of the school day and money raised with go to the National Kidney Foundation.  Classroom teachers will collect donations and turn them in to the office for Mrs. Schladers’ donation envelope.

Families interested are more than welcome to donate to the foundation on Mrs. Schladers’ behalf online at: http://donate.kidney.org/site/TR/Walk/MinnesotatheDakotasampIowa?px=1924019&pg=personal&fr_id=4500 .  If you would like this to be your child’s donation you can print off and send in the top portion of the confirmation page.  I donated online and when you finish you get a confirmation page that would work out perfect for this.

Your contribution will go to programs and services that benefit kidney patients, transplant recipients, organ donors and their families: early detection screenings, research, education for professionals and patients, and much more.

The following information is for a support program we would like to add to our school next year (2012-2013) and would start in September of 2012. ~ Mr. Martinson

The Foster Grandparent Program is looking for individuals 55 years or older to take an adventure.  Volunteers who have 15 hours per week or more to make a difference in children’s lives are needed at Cohasset Elementary School.  Benefits include a small tax-free stipend and mileage reimbursement for those who qualify.  For more information contact Robyn at 244-9580 or robyn.gunnerson@lssmn.org

We also have a week long event celebrating Mrs. B’s (Jackie Bischoff’s) Birthday.  Mrs. B’s birthday is tomorrow and our school will be celebrating all week with themed days and our 2nd annual Coins for Cancer drive.

One last event takes place Tuesday night, March 27th.  That will be our annual Science Family Night.  The event starts at 5:30 and runs to 7:00.  The event includes a meal from Florio’s (no charge) and Science Themed Stations.

MRS. B’S BIRTHDAY WEEK
Coins for Cancer & Theme Days!
Monday, March 26 ~ Friday, March 30

Mrs. B’s birthday is March 25.  In celebration of her life we will again be sponsoring a “Coins for Cancer” week and also adding  theme days to the week!

During the week of March 26-30 we will again be collecting coins for the Itasca Area Cancer Crisis Fund, a fund that was created to honor Jackie and help other families battling cancer.   Last year we raised over $2,000 in one week!  Coins can be sent in to your child’s classroom teacher.  This isn’t a classroom competition, although there’s always bragging rights, this is more to raise funds for an AMAZING local cause and hopefully meet or beat last year’s total.

Jackie was always one to celebrate birthdays and always quick with ideas for theme days and school spirit events.  So, new this year we will be adding theme days as well as a popcorn day and ice cream day.

Here are the theme days for the week:

Hats can be worn if they match the theme or outfit, sandals too.  Hats will need to be taken off during class time.  For those that know Mr. Martinson, hats are a big deal and treat.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

** For Friday’s Ice Cream Day, we’ll gladly take donations of toppings, candy to mix, cones, etc.  Donations can be dropped off in the office.  As always, ice cream for our machine will be purchased with personal funds donated directly from staff.  I am always up front and clear that we’ve never used building or district funds for the ice cream machine and the machine itself was donated to Mr. Martinson by the College of St. Scholastica.

In years past Cohasset had raised funds for Pennies for Patients.  With the passing of Mrs. B. we have switched our focus to “Coins for Cancer”.  All funds raised are donated, in Jackie’s honor, to the Itasca Area Cancer Crisis Fund.  www.teambisch.org ~ www.gracf.org/grants-and-programs.html
